Hardingham Fete

Each year we hold an annual fete, traditionally on a Sunday at the end of June, to raise funds and socialise

One of the secrets of the fete’s continued success is the variety of traditional games and stalls to entertain the whole family.   Whether it is having a go on the tombola, testing your skills on the skittles, darts or coconut shy or just sitting relaxing over a cup of tea it is always a pleasurable experience in such picturesque surroundings.

Both the plant and cake stalls are usually sold out in double quick time.   There are raffles, games, children’s races and a super white elephant stall making sure that most fete goers happily wander home with a bargain or two.   The marquee houses the flower and produce show, an open show you are encouraged to enter.   One of the best aspects of the whole afternoon is meeting up with new friends and joining in the fun whatever your age.

This is a village effort to raise funds for two village amenities.   One is the Church, a building that has stood for longer than any other in the village –a part of history which will not survive unless care is taken of it.   The other amenity is the memorial hall, a place where people come together and are part of the community.   As its name indicates it is also a memorial to those from the village who gave their lives to safeguard freedom.   It too will not survive without constant maintenance and care.

Preparations for the fete start in earnest in February with a public meeting in the Memorial Hall – look out for the date in Group News.   We are always looking for new ideas and helpers.   Would you be prepared to help –manning or helping on a stall, putting up the marquee, baking a cake or in any other way?

If you are unable to help we do hope you will still come along and enjoy yourself.
