Speedy action by police against drivers
(Newspaper article from the Watton and Swaffham Times)
20 May 2010
Forty motorists were caught by police during a crackdown on speeding in Mid Norfolk.
Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers were joined by the Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership and Yaxham and Saham Toney Community Speed Watch schemes for a three-day operation to educate drivers and enforce the speed limits after local people raised concerns.
This issue has been adopted as a neighbourhood priority.
A number of locations were visited by police, as part of the operation including Watton, Yaxham, Whinburgh, Hardingham, Scoulton, Griston, Garvestone, Cressingham and Bodney.
Those caught speeding were given conditional offer fixed-penalty notices and verbal and written warnings.
Watton-based Sgt Lance Ogbourne said: “Speed checks were carried out across the neighbourhood to educate drivers and increase awareness about road safety.
“Our presence throughout the three-day initiative was greatly appreciated by members of the community.
“Speeding will not be tolerated in the neighbourhood and we will continue to target areas which have been identified to us as a concern by local residents.”
